* National Recovery and Resilience Plan: the guidelines for the system initiatives of Mission 4 Component 2 The Guidelines precede the emanation of the calls regarding the research of the M4C2 supply chain of the PNRR and contain an overview and key information for potential participants in order to facilitate their adherence to the calls. The system initiatives of Mission 4, Component 2, aim at: - strengthen research and encourage the spread of innovative models for basic and applied research conducted in synergy between universities, research bodies and public or private subjects engaged in R&D activities; - support processes for innovation and technology transfer; - enhance research and innovation infrastructures, capital and skills to support innovation; The system interventions currently planned are four and will use just over 6 billion Euros of the 9 within the competence of the Mur. Investments will be accessed through calls that will be published within the first quarter of 2022. The calls are aimed at selecting: - 5 "national research and development champions" (National Centers) on some enabling technologies; - up to 12 "innovation ecosystems"; - at least 10 major fundamental research projects proposed by «extended partnerships» made up of universities, research centers and companies; - up to 30 research and technological innovation infrastructures. * C-Lab Veneto project awards Contamination Lab Veneto is an innovative project of the University of Padua, now at its fourth edition, during which multidisciplinary teams of students and graduates responded to a challenge launched by companies and partner institutions by identifying an innovative solution, as well as attending courses on entrepreneurial issues. During the Galileo Festival, the following best projects were awarded:
1st PRIZE - "EarthCARE: recovery and reuse of pharmaceutical glass syringes": design and construction of a prototype machine created to allow - directly in hospital wards - the regulatory assimilation of syringes to differentiated urban waste. Company associated with the team: Stevanato Group
2nd CLASSIFIED - "IrriBANC": design of a qualitative method based on a multidimensional elaboration of agronomic, economic, legal, social and territorial factors, able to provide advice on the most suitable irrigation technology for the needs of the farmer and the territory. Company associated with the team: Crédit Agricole FriulAdria.
3rd PLACE TIED - "CONNECT": creation of a prototype of a digital platform to support the municipality's youth policies, designed for more effective organisation, communication and evaluation of extracurricular projects for young people in the area. Team member: Municipality of Padua.
3rd PLACE WITH EQUAL MERIT - "PARIS INDEX": creation of an index capable of communicating the environmental impact of OVS products to all stakeholders, avoiding greenwashing operations. Company associated with the team: OVS SpA

--- * Start Cup Veneto 2021 The 20th edition of Start Cup Veneto, the business plan competition organized by the University of Padua, Verona and IUAV, awarded the top 5 entrepreneurial teams, of which four from UniPD: - 1st place Life Science: DNA Switch a new therapeutic approach for neurodegenerative diseases based on the activation of genes (UNIPD) - 2nd place Cleantech & Energy: TUNICA Marine invertebrates for circular economy: an alternative, sustainable source of cellulose, bioethanol and feedstock for aquaculture. (UNIPD) - 3rd place: Industrial: ELEMENTO Ele is a designer lamp, its shape is the archetype of Light. It switches on with a touch on its entire surface, thanks to a new capacitive technology. (UNIPD) - 5th place Cleantech & Energy: INNOVATION GEO MATERIALS Innovative geopolymers made from production waste, with lower CO2 emissions, according to a Circular Economy vision.

* Informal exploratory talks for association to Horizon Europe As per 12 October 2021, the European Commission has successfully concluded the formal negotiations for an association to Horizon Europe also with the Faroe Islands, Israel and Tunisia. At the EU-Ukraine Summit in Kyiv, the EU and Ukraine signed the agreement that associates Ukraine to Horizon Europe and Euratom Research & Training programme. Delays in joining Horizon Europe affect Switzerland and the UK. The agreement between UK and EU is still missing. UK researchers can still apply for Horizon Europe grants, however, the association will have to be reached before the grant agreements are signed (expected around March 2022).
