* Unipd: four researchers have won the European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grants
Four researchers have won the ERC Starting Grant competition and will be hosted at the University of Padua to carry out their research projects.
Congratulations to: Luca Dell'Amico (researcher at the Department of Chemical Sciences (DiSC) and hosted at the Department of Chemical Sciences), Ludovica Galeazzo (I Tatti, the Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies hosted at the Department of Cultural Heritage: Archaeology and History of Art, Cinema and Music (DBC)), Martha Giovanna Pamato (researcher at the Department of Geosciences, MSCA Fellow at Unipd and hosted at Department of Geosciences) and and Silvia Benavides-Varela (researcher at the Department of Developmental Psychology and Socialisation (DPSS), winner of STARS@UNIPD 2019 and hosted at the Department of Developmental Psychology and Socialisation).

Among Italian universities, the University of Padua ranks first in terms of funding provided.

* AIRC Foundation: 31 projects funded at the University of Padua
On 29 November, 2021 the AIRC Foundation approved the Investigator Grant projects that received funding with 2020 funds, relating to both projects starting in 2021 and those already underway.
31 projects of the University of Padua are the winners with a total financial endowment of 3.673.309,00 euros.

* Horizon Europe: the guideline about the opportunities for researchers from the SSH now published
The guide to help potential applicants to find out opportunities for Social Siences and Humanities (SSH) has been published by the European Commission. The document includes SSH-dedicated topics where SSH aspects dominate the text; SSH-relevant topics with substantial relevance to the SSH community; topics with minor SSH relevance with short information provided.

* Horizon Europe: updated versions of 2021-22 WPs published
The European Commission published in the Funding & Tender Opportunities Portal updated versions of some of the Horizon Europe 2021-22 Work Programmes.

* Deadline for application “Contamination Lab Veneto project", the multidisciplinary laboratory of the University of Padua
Until 27 January 2022, the call for applications is open to the student community, graduates, PhDs and PhD students of the University of Padua, to participate in the 2022 edition of the Contamination Lab Veneto project. The aim is to develop entrepreneurial and transversal skills through specific training courses and the development of an entrepreneurial or social innovation project, alongside the best companies and organisations in the area.

* The global Call of the Doctoral Programme MSCA-COFUND "UNIPhD - Training the next-generation talents" is now open
The global call for applications "UNIPhD - Eight century legacy of multidisciplinary research and training for the next-generation talents” is now opening.
The Doctoral Programme, co-funded by the European Commission in the framework of Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action COFUND (Horizon 2020) and by the Veneto Region, will allow to recruit 50 excellent Early Stage Researchers, coming from all over the world and from the widest variety of research areas, willing to present a research project in one of the 25 PhD Courses involved. Applicants will be recruited for 36 months, starting in October 2022.

* Call for applications for the selection of members of the Commission expert groups
The European Commission launched a call for experts to join the five Mission Boards, with the role of advising on the implementation of the EU Missions working on: Adaptation to Climate Change; Cancer; Restore our Ocean and Waters; Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities; Soil Deal for Europe.
Each Mission Board shall consist of up to 15 independent high-level with proven knowledge and experience in their areas of expertise, in implementing large scale activities, serving public authorities and citizens, and in combining different public and/or private funding.

* Call for proposals of CERV Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme
New calls for proposals published under the CERV programme, managed by the DG Justice, which aims to combat and prevent all forms of discrimination and violence, protect and promote fundamental rights and European values.
Next calls for proposals will fund projects on the following topics:
  • CERV-2022-EQUAL (deadline 24/02/2022) prevent and fight against intolerance, racism, xenophobia, and discrimination, in particular on grounds of racial or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity (5 priorities);
  • CERV-2022-GE (deadline 16/03/2022) gender equality, in particular in the participation and representation in political and economic decision making and on tackling gender stereotypes;
  • CERV-2022-DAPHNE (deadline 12/04/2022) to prevent and combat gender-based violence and violence against children (5 priorities);
  • CERV-2022-CHILD (deadline 18/05/2022) to contribute to the implementation of recommendations of the EU Strategy on children's rights;
  • CERV-2022-CITIZENS-REM (deadline 24/03/2022) commemoration of and research and education about crimes committed under totalitarian regimes; resistance, democratic transition and democratic consolidation in the EU (sum lump funding).

* Uni-Impresa 2021 call
Uni-Impresa 2021 call is now open to co-fund innovative research projects in collaboration with companies or public bodies. This year's budget from the University is 465.000 €.

* Human Frontier Science Program Research Grant
HFSP Research Grants support innovative basic research into fundamental biological problems with emphasis placed on novel and interdisciplinary approaches. The proposal should involve disciplines outside the traditional life sciences such as chemistry, computational biology, engineering or physics.
Two types of Grant are available:
  • Research Grants (any stage of career);
  • Early Career Research Grants (within 5 years of obtaining an independent position and within 10 years of first doctoral degree).
Both grant schemes are provided for teams of 2-4 scientists from different countries.

* JUSTICE Programme Calls
The Justice Programme (JUST) supports national and transnational projects in the area of justice.
In particular, next calls for proposals concern the following topics:
  • JUST-2022-E-JUSTICE (deadline 15/03/2022) digitalisation of Justice in the EU.
  • JUST-2022-JCOO (deadline 16/03/2022) promotion of judicial cooperation in civil and criminal matters.
  • JUST-2022-JTRA (deadline 22/03/2022)  judicial training covering civil law, criminal law or fundamental rights (only transnational projects).

* Mission Cancer – new funding opportunities
A new call for proposals within the “Mission Cancer” opened on 22 December, 2021. Here a list of the 3 topics:
  • Develop and validate a set of quality of life and patient preference measures for cancer patients and survivors;
  • Better understanding of the impact of risk factors and health determinants on the development and progression of cancer;
  • Develop new methods and technologies for cancer screening and early detection.

* A Life Course Approach to Common Non-communicable Disease Risk Factor Prevention and Reduction
The Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases’ (GACD) funding call will fund collaborative implementation research focused on addressing common NCD risk factors through interventions that reduce health risk and/or enhance positive health and lifestyle behaviours in young people, and/or in other critical life stages (e.g., childhood, older adults) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and/or in disadvantaged populations in high-income countries (HICs).

* Infodays for EU Missions – On line event, 18 -19 January 2022
The European Commission has announced dedicated Info-Days for the EU Missions to be held virtually between 18 and 19 January 2022.
The Info-Days will present a wide range of new topics for all five missions: Adaptation to Climate Change, Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030, A Soil Deal for Europe, Cancer and 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart cities by 2030.
The event will provide prospective applicants with specific information on the new Missions’ Work Programme calls, funding opportunities and timelines. Registration is not required.
