* STARS@UNIPD 2023 call is now open!
The STARS@UNIPD 2023 call for proposals is now open for the fourth edition. The Programme aims at funding 30-month individual research projects, promoted by Principal Investigators (PIs) of any age and nationality, who wish to pursue research at one of the Departments of our University. It features 3 funding schemes:
- Starting Grant: for early-career PIs, also external to Unipd, who want to develop their research activity and establish their own team (PhD defense: 0-5 years prior to 1 January 2023);
- Consolidator Grant: for PIs who are already conducting research at Unipd and are consolidating their own research team and/or their own independent research (PhD defense: 5-10 years prior to 1 January 2023);
- Wild Card Grant: for PIs who submitted a proposal in an ERC 2021 and 2022 call for proposals, indicated Unipd as Host Institution, obtained a final mark of  “A” but were not funded due to budget limits.

* Call for proposals opening - Doctoral Programme MSCA-COFUND "UNIPhD. Training the next-generation talents" (A.Y. 2023/2024)
A new Call for proposals "UNIPhD - Eight century legacy of multidisciplinary research and training for the next-generation talents” will be launched on 6 December 2022. The Doctoral Programme is co-funded by the European Commission in the framework of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action COFUND (Horizon 2020) and by the Veneto Region.
Following the first edition of the call (Academic year 2022/23) which has selected 39 international Fellows, the second call (Academic year 2023/24) offers 11 Fellowships to excellent Early Stage Researchers  willing to present a research project in one of the 10 PhD Courses involved.

* New Call Uni-Impresa 2022

The UNI-IMPRESA 2022 call is open, for the funding of activities aimed at the development of relations with the business world and the transfer of knowledge between academia and business. Funding up to 515,000 euros on two funding lines is dedicated to co-finance university structures that will present joint research projects with private and public partners.

* C-Lab Veneto - 6th edition 
The call to participate in the 6th edition of C-Lab Veneto is open for application and will start in March 2023. It will be a unique opportunity for all young people who want to enhance their CV with the Open Badge, i.e. the digital attestation of disciplinary knowledge, personal skills and technical competences acquired during the C-Lab course.

* EMBO Young Investigators call
The European Molecular Biology Organization - EMBO call for Young Investigators will open in January 2023. The programme is aimed at researchers who have been working as "group leader" for a minimum of 1 to a maximum of 4 years in a laboratory based in one of the EMBC Member States (or Associated/Cooperation Agreement States). Researchers must have an excellent research track record and publications in scientific journals, of which at least one as senior author, as part of the research carried out in their own laboratory. The lab must be independent and the research activities shall be self-sufficiently funded.
The winners will have the opportunity to join the international network of EMBO Young Investigators, Installation Grants and Global Investigators and will receive, over 4 years, a grant of 15,000 euros aimed at supporting networking activities and access to training initiatives and of tutoring, also extended to the members of the laboratory.

* Imminent Translated's Research Center - Language technology innovators Grant

Imminent Translated's Research Center funds linguistic research and the best initiatives that promote technology and creativity for international communication. Every year it allocates up to 100,000 euros to finance innovative projects with the aim of making our multilingual world more accessible.
Five original research projects are awarded with a contribution of 20,000 euros each, to explore the most advanced frontiers in the world of language services. The 5 topics covered by the call are the following: Language economics, Linguistic data, Machine learning algorithms for translation, Human-computer interaction, Neuroscience of language.
The call is aimed at startuppers, researchers, university laboratories, organizations and companies, from anywhere in the world. A commission of leading industry experts will evaluate the proposals.

The official Info Days dedicated to the Horizon Europe Clusters, organized by the European Commission, will be held online between December and January. Below is an overview of the dates and event links:

* EU - Webinar: Maximising the Impact of H2020/HEU Project Results - 15 Dicembre 2022
The webinar is organized by the Executive Agency for Small and Medium Enterprises of the European Commission, and offers an overview of the IP landscape both during and after the implementation of an H2020/HEU project. The most common planning errors will be analyzed and some practical advice will be provided, in order to obtain the best results from an H2020/HEU project.

* Unipd researcher awarded an ERC Starting Grant
Dr. Cecilia Laterza, fellow at the Department of Industrial Engineering and grantee of the STARS@UNIPD funding programme, has been awarded an ERC Starting Grant in the last call 2022. This is an important achievement for UNIPD, endorsing further the role of our University in such highly-competitive calls, funding the most promising ideas in frontier research.
Our sincerest congratulations to dr. Cecilia Laterza, hosted as ERC PI at the Department of Industrial Engineering.

* Call MUR - PNRR "Young Researchers": 36 researchers at the University of Padua, first in Italy for selected projects
The Ministry of University and Research has published the rankings of projects eligible for funding in the Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSCA) and Seal of Excellence (SoE) funding schemes under the MUR - PNRR "Young Researchers" call. The funding for the selected projects range from 150,000 euros for SoE projects, to a maximum of 300,000 euros for MSCA projects.

At the national level, 83 MSCA and 193 SoE projects have been selected for funding by the MUR, corresponding to over 52 million euros in terms of funding. For the University of Padua, 12 MSCA projects and 24 SoE projects were selected, and the expected funding amounts to 3.3 and 3.6 million euros respectively, more than 6.9 million euros overall.

In both funding schemes, the University of Padua ranks first among the participating Host Institutions, by number of projects eligible for funding and by the total amount of the ministerial funding, currently under allocation.

* UNIPhD Welcome Day!
The first UNIPhD Welcome Day was held on 25 November. The welcome meeting was dedicated to the 39 international Fellows and PhD students, selected within the framework of the programme, to foster networking between Fellows and supervisors. During the event, practical information was shared about the organization of doctoral programme.

* LIFE calls 2022: 751 LIFE project proposals submitted - 9 by UNIPD
The LIFE Programme's 2022  calls for nature, environment, climate action and clean energy transition projects has resulted in 751 proposals coming in from across the EU. The University of Padua submitted 9 proposals, one as coordinator. The projects can help Europe become a climate-neutral continent by 2050. The EC  will inform applicants of the outcome in Spring 2023.

* FARE III Edition Call (2020): 5 UNIPD projects funded by the MUR
With D.D. n. 398 of 24 October 2022 (registered at the Court of Auditors on 2 November 2022), the MUR approved the funding of FARE projects - III edition (2020).
The University of Padua has been awarded a total amount of 1,417,319.00 euros for the 5 projects presented by PIs who have chosen UNIPD as Host Institution: Prof. Alessandro Aliprandi (Department of Chemical Sciences), Prof. Judit Gervain (Department of Developmental Psychology and Socialisation), Prof. Stefania Gialdroni (Department of Private Law and Critique of Law), Prof. Zuleika Murat (Department of Cultural Heritage) and Prof. Cristiano Nicosia (Department of Geosciences).
The call is aimed at attracting ERC winners within Italian universities and public research bodies. Additional funding is granted to researchers who have won ERC calls of the Starting grant, Consolidator grant or Advanced grant types and who have chosen an Italian institution as beneficiary, or who have opted for an Italian institution using the portability institution.

* Extend - The National Technology Transfer Hub
Extend, the National Technology Transfer Pole is dedicated to the biopharmaceutical sector. An initiative by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP), the Italian National Promotional Institution, it benefits from a 55 million investment plan, aimed at funding Research teams for the development of new drugs and new therapeutic approaches.
The University of Padua is among the Scientific Promoters, along with Ospedale San Raffaele, University of Milan, Human Technopole, University of Florence, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, University of Rome La Sapienza and H-Bio.

* EC Call to input on a common European mobility data space - deadline 7 December 2022
The EC has started to work on the creation of a common European mobility data space and is inviting interested stakeholders to provide input. The EC aims to facilitate data access as well as the pooling and sharing of data for more efficient, safe, sustainable and resilient transport. The common European mobility data space (EMDS) aims to facilitate data access, pooling, and sharing for more efficient, safe, sustainable, and resilient transport. It builds on initiatives and applications related to transport data and will be supported by initiatives to boost interoperability, security, and the availability and provision of data and services. Stakeholders can provide their feedback until 7 December 2022.

* European Union: EC reports on energy transition progress
The EC has published a series of reports and documents which highlight the progress made in implementing the Energy Union, covering issues such as competitiveness, energy subsidies and the achievement of the 2030 targets:
- Draft Guidance to Member States for the update of the 2021-2030 national energy and climate plans
- Draft Guidance on Cost-Benefit Sharing in Cross-border Renewable Energy Cooperation Projects
- Report on the achievement of the 2020 renewable energy targets
- Report on the achievement of the 2020 energy efficiency targets
- Report on energy subsidies in the EU
- 2022 Progress report on competitiveness of clean energy technologies
- Report on the performance of support for electricity from renewable sources granted by means of tendering procedures in the Union
- Implementing Regulation on structure, format, technical details and process for the integrated national energy and climate progress reports

* APRE 2022 Annual Conference – Slide and presentations now available online
The recordings and presentations of the APRE 2022 Annual Conference, entitled "Innovating in complexity", are now available online. From 25 to 28 October, meetings and workshops have taken place during the conference, organized by the European Agency for the Promotion of Research, addressing the main topics of Horizon Europe and its challenges.
